NFIB members overwhelmingly agree with decreasing one-size-fits-all mandates and increasing American energy production to help lower costs on Main Street. Small businesses believe Congress has a significant opportunity to reform the bureaucratic regulatory system that hinders domestic energy production and manufacturing. Doing so will unleash energy production and fuel small business expansion. These reforms are urgently needed, as the U.S. economy demands more energy for advanced manufacturing, AI, and data storage.
True permitting reform will help critical industries across the energy sector. According to the Wall Street Journal, it takes an average of 29 years to develop a mine in the U.S., the second longest in the world after Zambia.
Energy abundance will only come about once we reform the bureaucratic and antiquated regulatory system that hinders domestic production. Reforms to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) are especially needed, as the US economy demands more energy for advanced manufacturing, AI, and data storage. NFIB is supportive of the SPEED Act (HR 4776), which would expedite permitting reviews under NEPA.
