Wage Proposals Exceed Even Those Backed By President
At a debate of Democratic primary candidates
running for the open 12th district of North Carolina seat, the five contenders
all backed a significant increase in the federal minimum wage. While President
Obama has called for raising the current rate from $7.25 to $10.10, the
candidates generally supported raising the wage to at least $12 per hour, while
two backed an increase all the way to $15. The narrow 12th district runs from
Charlotte north to Greensboro, and is heavily Democratic. The winner of that
party’s primary is almost guaranteed to win in the general election.
