An Update from Your NFIB/Virginia State Director

As I write this letter, the Virginia General Assembly reached the halfway point in the 2015 General Assembly Session known as “crossover”.  Each chamber has dealt with their bills and those that passed are now being considered by the other Chamber. NFIB/Virginia hit the ground running reviewing over 2000 pieces of legislation to determine which ones would impact your ability to operate your business.

NFIB/Virginia identified approximately 125 legislative proposals of interest to the small business community. Of these proposals, 45 of them were mandates on small businesses such as minimum wage increases, paid sick leave, additional health insurance mandates and increased taxes and fees.  NFIB/Virginia lead the fight in killing all but 2.  The remaining proposals are the health insurance mandate for autism services and the accelerated sales tax where retailers must remit their June payment one month earlier.

It takes your involvement to stop bad legislation. I encourage you to learn more about the two remaining issues in this email and contact your state representatives to voice your opposition.  Legislators respond when they hear from their local constituents.

Sincerely,

Nicole Riley, NFIB Virginia State Director
