The first 60 days lay the groundwork for future hearings, floor action, voting, and amending.
The 85th Legislature is in Session
Greetings NFIB members, friends, and family, the 85th Legislature has convened and the members of the House and Senate have been sworn in and begun to get down to business. Of course, the business being conducted at this point is mostly administrative and ceremonial. The first 60 days are generally reserved for preparing for the following 80 days of hearings, floor action, voting, amending, etc. This is due to the Texas Constitution’s provisions that only allows action on substantive legislation after the first 60 days have passed. Only the governor can override this provision by declaring specific legislation as an “emergency item.” NFIB/Texas has requested emergency declaration for key small business issues so that we can get a head start on other bills.
NFIB/Texas wants your voice to be added to the mix during the session and there are many ways for you to have an impact on issues critical to the success of the small business community. Chief among these is for you to come to the NFIB/Texas Small Business Day at the Capitol on February 13 and 14 so that we can show lawmakers that you are watching them, you care about their votes on NFIB/Texas issues, and you plan to hold them accountable for their actions. Go to bit.ly/TXSmallBizDayRSVP2017 and sign up today! You won’t regret it and it may be the best decision you make for your business all year.
Thanks for putting your trust in NFIB.
