Governor Tom Wolf has announced his proposed state budget and it’s painful for small business. Our new governor wants to raise the Personal Income Tax by 21%, even though so many small businesses file their earnings that way. Wolf also wants to increase the sales tax and expand it to services like accounting, advertising, dry cleaning, trash collection and real estate services. He wants to add a sales tax to items that were previously exempt like candy, caskets, personal hygiene products and even flags.
The governor plans to raise billions in new taxes and increase state spending by 16%! And he isn’t offering a solution to the state’s pension debt crisis.
As you can see, NFIB has a lot to fight for on behalf of you and your business here in Harrisburg. We encourage you to participate in our Small Business Days at the Capitol on April 20 and 21 to let lawmakers hear from you directly. There will be great speakers, private meetings with legislative leaders and an opportunity to network with other small business owners. You can learn more about that event at this link.
