Small employers to converge state capitol to battle tax increases, labor mandates
HARRISBURG, PA. (Feb. 21, 2017) – Robb Hanrahan, CBS 21’s senior political anchor and the host of Face the State, will emcee Small Business Day at the Capitol dinner on Tuesday, April 4, at the Harrisburg Hilton. The dinner is hosted by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Pennsylvania’s leading small business group with more than 14,000 small- and independent-business members.
Hanrahan has been a part of the CBS 21 news team since February 2010 and has more than 30 years of television news experience. He anchors the 6 p.m. and late newscasts and serves as chief political reporter.
“Robb Hanrahan is a respected veteran journalist and seasoned political pro, covering the state Capitol for nearly a decade,” said NFIB Executive State Director Kevin Shivers. “He is widely recognized throughout the midstate, and we are delighted he will be involved in our program.”
The featured dinner speaker is journalist Kimberley Strassel, a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board. Strassel also is a regular guest on Fox Business. Previous dinner speakers have included Frank Coonelly, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Pirates; State Treasurer Timothy A. Reese; state House Speaker Mike Turzai; and Stephen Hayes, senior writer at The Weekly Standard.
The day-and-a-half Small Business Day at the State Capitol event, kicks off April 4, with a reception and the dinner. On Wednesday, April 5, business owners head to the state Capitol to meet with state officials, legislative leaders, and their elected officials to discuss policies and mandates that affect small-business growth and hiring. The governor’s 2017-18 state budget proposal, which includes $1 billion in business tax increases and a proposal to raise the minimum wage to $12/hr., are among the concerns employers likely will raise during meetings with their elected representatives.
