Dalrymple, NFIB, AMEX Unite For Small Business Saturday

Date: November 20, 2015

BISMARCK, N.D., Nov. 20, 2015—North Dakota small businesses are taking advantage of two groups’ offer of free advertising and consulting them, and the U.S. Small Business Administration, for advice on how to optimally promote Small Business Saturday, which Gov. Jack Dalrymple has proclaimed for November 28.
Started by American Express in 2010 as a way to pull some of the holiday shopping away from the malls and onto Main Street, Small Business Saturday has since become a huge success, last year drawing 88 million customers who spent $14.3 billion dollars, according to American Express’s research, which also found 55 percent of U.S. customers aware of the day.
“We are very proud to partner with American Express once again this year to promote an event that connects American consumers with their hometown businesses,” said Dan Danner, president and CEO of the America’s largest and leading small-business association, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).
Added NFIB/North Dakota State Director Rae Ann Kelsch, “Small Business Saturday is our message to the nation that there’s something more interesting and more beneficial for everyone going on in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Nothing against big box stores, but the salaries and profits made at local small businesses stay in the community, not shipped to some distant entity.”
  • North Dakota small-business owners can submit information about their enterprises and why shoppers should visit them on Saturday, November 28. NFIB will promote their businesses for free on NFIB.com and in front of its hundreds of thousands of social media fans. Already small businesses in Regan, Watford City and Wishek have taken the offer. Click here and zoom in on North Dakota, then click the stars for the name of the small business. Businesses need not be a member of NFIB to take advantage of the offer.
  • And the U.S. Small Business Administration also has some handy tips on promoting Small Business Saturday.
“Small business is the engine of North Dakota’s economy,” said Kelsch. “Small Business Saturday is a great way to not only rev that engine, but also to acquaint or re-acquaint yourself with your neighbors who own and work at small businesses.”
[Editors: A 363-word editorial by Kelsch on the importance of shopping small can be found here. You may us it as free content for you publications and websites, or as background material on any related stories you might be working on.]
