IRRESPONSIBLE PROPOSAL DRAWS IRE FROM SMALL BUSINESS COMMUNITY
ALBANY
(February 2, 2016): The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is
responding to Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie’s proposal earlier today to revise
the state’s tax code and increase the taxes paid by top earners in New
York. The following remarks may be attributed to NFIB New York state
director, Michael Durant:
“Speaker
Heastie’s tax proposal would firmly cement New York’s status as anti-business
by hitting small businesses and hurting our economic competitiveness. Most
small business owners report their income as individual filers. The revenue
that they file is not lining their pockets, its going to pay the overhead of
their small businesses, including salaries paid to hard working employees.”
“This
proposal would do the unthinkable, worsen New York’s business tax climate.
Lawmakers should immediately reject this narrative and focus on proposals which
create jobs and bolster our economic competitiveness.”
