Goal Is To Address Needs Of Growing Number Of Hispanic Entrepreneurs
As the 2016 presidential campaign kicks into higher gear with both Republicans and Democrats holding their national nominating conventions, the small business community is closely watching to see how their interests will be represented by both parties. Roll Call reports that for the first time, the National Federation of Independent Business is tweeting coverage of the Republican National Convention in Spanish, and has plans to similarly cover the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia next week. NFIB president and CEO Juanita Duggan said, “Hispanic-owned businesses are among the fastest growing groups of entrepreneurs and we want them to know that NFIB is there for them.” According to the article, while Republican nominee Donald Trump has made controversial remarks about Mexicans and immigration that observers have said could turn off Hispanic voters, NFIB will continue tweeting throughout the three day event, and will live tweet the convention’s final day on Thursday. Duggan said, “This is an important group of business owners who have many of the same concerns and face many of the same problems as the rest of our members. We want to communicate with Hispanic members and prospects in whatever language is most comfortable to them.”
What This Means For Small Business
NFIB notes that Small Business Administration data shows a 46% increase in Hispanic-owned U.S. businesses between 2007-12 to 3.3 million. This demographic will be increasingly important for the small business community in the future, and it will be key to effectively communicate solutions and advocate policies that address concerns and problems that all small business owners face.
