Prestigious award goes to legislators who strongly support small business.
NFIB/Tennessee Names 8 Small Business Guardians
Many of your Tennessee state legislators are fighting hard to ensure that small businesses have the freedom to thrive and create jobs and prosperity in the Volunteer State. In recognition of their support for small businesses, NFIB/TN has presented Guardian of Small Business Awards to eight lawmakers thus far in 2016.
Sen. Green has a 100 percent voting record with NFIB, but in particular, he fought for two bills in 2016 that are important to Tennessee small business owners: SB 2481, which aims to reduce unemployment benefit fraud and lower unemployment insurance costs for businesses, and SB 2469, which seeks to rein in overregulation and cut through some of the red tape on licensed professions.
“John DeBerry is a strong voice for small business and common-sense reforms, supporting less regulation and a stable business environment for free enterprise,” said Jim Brown, NFIB/TN state director. “NFIB members in Memphis and across Tennessee appreciate his consistent support to help small businesses survive and thrive.”
Sen. Gresham scored a perfect 100 percent voting record with NFIB.
Sen. Bell also scored a perfect 100 percent voting record with NFIB, and Brown called him one of NFIB’s strongest supporters on a variety of issues.
Rep. Faison scored 100 percent on NFIB’s voting record and chairs the House Government Operations Committee.
Brown said Rep. Dunlap has voted in support of NFIB/TN’s position on all 14 key votes that came to the House floor in the past two years.
In addition to a 100 percent voting record with NFIB, Rep. Daniel sponsored the Right to Earn a Living Act, which requires the Tennessee state government to review entry regulations for licensed professions and occupations and will help cut through some of the red tape that makes it harder for people to own and operate their own businesses.
“Charles Sargent is an exceptionally strong supporter of NFIB on a variety of issues. Most notably, he sponsored legislation to repeal the state’s inheritance and gift taxes, as well as a reform bill that provides a more flexible, less punitive reporting method for businesses that pay our franchise and excise tax.”
