The game changers of today's business world.

Iowa Cities Included in Best Places for Women and Hispanic Entrepreneurs

Two new studies by WalletHub
prove that not only are women and the Latino and Hispanic community a cornerstone of our national business
economy—they’re two of the fastest growing sectors in U.S. entrepreneurship.

More than 9.4 million women own
businesses in the U.S—almost a third of all privately held companies, bringing
in an annual revenue of $1.5 trillion, according to an American
Express OPEN-commissioned report
. Likewise, Hispanic and Latino communities are creating new
businesses at 15 times the national rate, says a report from analytics firm Geoscape and the USHCC.

To shed some light on some of
the top places—and worst—for female and Hispanic entrepreneurship in the U.S.,
WalletHub ranked 150 cities nationwide in two different studies.

Des Moines made both lists,
coming in at number 51 for best cities for women-owned businesses and 122 for
Hispanic-owned businesses, and achieving high scores in overall new-business
friendliness and Hispanic purchasing power rank.

Despite its overall high
scores, the city has one of the lowest numbers of Hispanics with at least a
bachelor’s degree and also has the lowest percentage of women-owned businesses
on the list.

Omaha-Council Bluffs bested Des
Moines in best cities for women business owners, coming in number 19 overall
for female entrepreneurship, with high rankings for new-business friendliness
and business climate for women.

The studies took into
consideration factors like percentage
of women-owned businesses, average revenue of women-owned businesses, industry
variety for women-owned firms, presence of Small Business Administration
women’s business centers, Hispanic entrepreneurship rate, share of
Hispanic-owned businesses, survival rate, income growth, and affordability.
