The small business community has been calling for lawmakers in Hartford to live within their means for years and we again applaud the Governor for doing the same. The fact that the revised budget is not only balanced but without any new taxes or an onerous new ‘sales tax permit fee’ is a welcome relief to small employers in Connecticut and something the legislature failed to do last week.

Governor Malloy pledged this year that there would be no new taxes in the budget and he is honoring his word, something for which we praise him in the strongest terms. While we know there are no quick fixes, the fact that the Governor has shown he is willing and able to make sound fiscal proposals is exactly what small business owners in Connecticut have longed to hear.  Aligning spending to revenue is not a novel concept for small business owners, but apparently it is for state government.  We urge lawmakers from across the state to follow the Governor’s example and accept our new economic not only for this year’s budget adjustments, but also into the next biennium and beyond as well.
