NFIB Reacts to Governor Brown Signing SB
1349
Modernization
of Cal-Access is good for small business and transparency
SACRAMENTO,
Calif., September 29, 2016 – Following
Governor Jerry Brown signing Senate Bill 1349 (Hertzberg) today, NFIB California State Executive Director Tom Scott issued the
following statement on behalf of our 22,000 small business members:
“SB 1349 (Hertzberg)
directs the Secretary of State to modernize Cal-Access, California’s online
system for campaign finance filing and disclosure. This necessary upgrade will
make the system more reliable, better inform voters, and simplify compliance by
campaigns. Modernizing Cal-Access will increase the transparency of campaign
financing without requiring new disclosure rules, simply by providing easier
public access to the information that campaigns already report.
“We applaud
Governor Brown for signing this bill because small business owners and all voters
deserve ready access to campaign finance information, and a modern Cal-Access
will help voters to make informed choices about state ballot measures and
candidates.”
