Labor shortage has been a challenge for small business over the past few years, but according to a new survey from WalletHub, businesses in two Arizona cities shouldn’t have to worry too much. WalletHub’s “2017’s Best & Worst Small Cities to Start a Business” survey looked at 1,261 cities around the country with a population between 25,000 and 100,000. Each city was then ranked on three major levels: business environment, access to resources, and business costs.
San Luis (103 overall) is the top city for human-resource availability, while Yuma (551 overall) ranks fourth. WalletHub classifies human-resource availability specifically as the number of unemployed residents minus the number of job openings.
San Luis also scored 74th overall in the access to resources category, which consists of multiple sub-categories: financing accessibility, investor access, human-resource availability, higher-education assets, workforce educational attainment, and working-age population growth.
A total of 22 cities in Arizona made WalletHub’s list, with San Luis having the highest individual rank of 103 overall, just missing out on being in the top 100 states to start a small business.
