NFIB/Alaska State Director Denny DeWitt reports from the State Capitol on the legislative week ending April 22, 2016
The 90th day of the second session of the 29th Alaska Legislature has come and gone.
While the Legislature has remained in session, it has limited its consideration of bills to those with financial impact: Tax bills, budget bills, restructuring the use of Permanent Funding earnings reserve, etc.
The lone exception is Senate Bill 91, the omnibus crime bill. Many say the crime bill will save the state money in the long term by reducing recidivism. NFIB expects the Legislature will stay in session through next week.
For NFIB, the tax bills are on our radar, especially House Bill 250, the personal income tax bill, and we continue to watch SB 91, the crime bill, to be sure it’s not amended to negatively impact small businesses.
Senator Murkowski Thanks NFIB
In a letter to NFIB/Alaska State Director Denny DeWitt, Sen. Lisa Murkowski thanked small business for its support for a Congressional bill that would Section 179 expensing and increase the level from $200,000 to $500,000.
