Wisconsin Lawmaker Introduces $15 Minimum Wage Proposal

Date: May 05, 2015

Proposal would hike minimum wage from current $7.25

NFIB/Wisconsin is pushing back against a proposed minimum wage hike that could cripple many of the state’s small businesses.

“Any increase in Wisconsin’s minimum wage will not only add more stress on small businesses but will be passed on to hard-working consumers that are still attempting to economically recover from a very difficult time,” said NFIB/Wisconsin State Director Bill G. Smith in a statement. “Today’s proposal is short sighted, simplistic and misguided.”

The bill would increase the wage to $8.50 on its effective date, and then rise to $15 over the next five years.

State Rep. Melissa Sargent of Madison authored the legislation.
