Michigan small business owners knew their peers across the nation scored a win in April when Speaker John Boehner appointed U.S. Rep. John Moolenaar of Midland to a budget conference committee.
Congress hasn’t passed a budget resolution in six years, but with his pro-small business record, Moolenaar could help change that.
“Members of the House and Senate have worked hard to draft a budget that balances within ten years, keeps the promises made to seniors and does not raise taxes on hardworking Americans,” said Moolenaar in a statement announcing his appointment. “I am thankful for the trust placed in me, and I look forward to continuing to work on a fiscally responsible budget that will boost the slowly growing economy, create jobs and raise wages.”
Moolenaar replaced U.S. Rep. Dave Camp.
A day after his appointment was announced, Moolenaar boosted his pro-small business bona fides by voting in support of H.R. 1105, a repeal of the Estate Tax. The House passed the repeal 240-179.
“For many in Michigan’s Fourth Congressional District, the American Dream is to build a family farm or business and pass it on to their sons and daughters,” Moolenaar said. “Repealing the Death Tax makes it easier for Americans to realize that dream.”
