Update from NFIB/FL Executive Director: Senate Kills Small Business Tax Relief

The 2015 Legislative Session will officially adjourn Friday, and the small business agenda appears to have fallen victim to the Senate’s inability to commit to you, our state’s job creators.

Both the Florida Senate and the Florida House have large conservative majorities, yet the House is far more pro-small business than the Florida Senate.  This year, the House passed every NFIB-supported piece of legislation.  The Florida Senate: Zip.

And of course, half a legislature’s support is as good as no support at all.  It takes both the House and the Senate to put good pro-business legislation into law.

So I challenge NFIB members: How well do you know your state Senator?  Do you elect ’em and forget ’em?   Would you be surprised to find out your Senator may have run on a pro-business platform only to leave you high and dry when they got to the state Capitol?

After session adjourns, we’ll be tallying the votes and letting you know who supported you in Tallahassee this year and who forgot you. Then we’ll be looking to our members to help small business owners hold them accountable and demonstrate why job creators are our state’s biggest strength and a force to be reckoned with.
