SMALL BUSINESS SEES FISCAL NIGHTMARE LOOMING FOR CONNECTICUT TAX PAYERS

HARTFORD (May 29, 2015):  Today the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the state’s leading small business organization, is responding to the latest news in budget negotiations that burdensome tax hikes and exceeding the constitutional spending cap are still on the table.

“The answer to correcting Hartford’s spending problem is by no means to exceed the budget cap and raise taxes,” Said NFIB Connecticut State Director Andrew Markowski. “The people of Connecticut sent a clear and concise message to lawmakers when they elected to put the spending cap in place and it is irresponsible to even consider exceeding it by overspending and over taxing.”

Budget negotiations between Democrat lawmakers and Governor Malloy have been ongoing and recent reports have indicated that while an agreement may be getting close, it unfortunately includes multiple tax hikes, taxes on services that were previously untaxed and spending that far exceeds the constitutional spending cap.
“Do not be fooled by the rhetoric, there are other, reasonable, solutions to the budget issues that Connecticut is facing. Just yesterday Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) and House Republican Leader Themis Klarides (R-Derby) highlighted their solutions that include protecting the small business community and the citizens of Connecticut from the fiscal nightmare that is looming.” Concluded Markowski.
