Small Business Says Bottoms Up to National Beer Day
The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB)
says that if you’re celebrating National Beer Day, make sure to support a local
brewer
Washington, D.C., April 7, 2015 – As Benjamin
Franklin once said, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be
happy.” Americans who plan on “observing” National Beer Day today should
remember that their favorite suds probably come from a local business, said the
National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).
On April 6, 1933 President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison Act, which ended prohibition allowing
people to buy low alcohol beer and wine for the first time in 13 years.
April 7th was an “imperial” day and has since been known as National
Beer Day.
Today beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage in the
United States and in the past three decades the craft beer industry has exploded
thanks mainly to deregulation. Craft beer is produced at microbreweries,
which are often small businesses. According to the Brewer’s
Association, the industry now accounts for 360,000 jobs in the
economy.
So have a cold one, America, and make it a local.
