SMALL BUSINESS QUESTIONS OBAMAS DEFINITION OF MEANINGFUL ACTION

MADISON (March 10, 2015): Leave it to President Obama to take what should have been a victory for small business and turn it into a partisan attack against a potential Presidential candidate in 2016. Today the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is questioning what President Obama meant when he said last night that Governor Walker should help Wisconsin’s working class by taking “meaningful action.”

“Yesterday’s signature on right to work legislation was a victory for workers and employers alike. Finally, in Wisconsin, everyone will have the ability to determine their own fate and no one will be forced into a union against their will.” Said Bill G. Smith, NFIB Wisconsin State Director, “The President may think the action is not meaningful but small businesses throughout the state know that in the end, becoming a right to work state will decrease unemployment and empower our state’s economy.”

In response to Governor Walkers signing of a bill that was passed overwhelmingly by both the Assembly and Senate in Wisconsin in recent weeks, President Obama yesterday stated he was “deeply disappointed” and went on to declare the law “anti-worker”. Obama even continued to say that the law in Wisconsin will weaken workers. Unfortunately for the President, the Bureau of Economic Analysis recently found that while nominal income grew by 209.3 percent in right-to-work states, it was just 148.5 percent in non-right-to-work states from 1990-2011, completely contradicting President Obama’s rhetoric.

“The statistics show that right to work states fared much better during the difficult economic climate that we have recently faced.” Continued Smith, “Thanks to Governor Walker, Wisconsin is going to begin reaping the benefits that dozens of other right to work states have been enjoying for a long time.”
