SMALL BUSINESS CELEBRATING SALES TAX HOLIDAY THIS WEEKEND IN MASSACHUSETTS
BOSTON (August 13, 2015): The National
Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is encouraging consumers to shop at
ocal small businesses during Massachusetts’ sales tax holiday this weekend (August
15-16).
“With
families focused on back to school shopping, but other retail activities
generally slow this time of year, holding the sales tax holiday in mid-August
is perfect for small businesses. And by shopping at businesses on Main Street,
consumers are supporting their local communities and bolstering local
entrepreneurs while saving tax dollars and taking advantage of additional
promotions,” according to NFIB/Massachusetts State Director, Bill Vernon.
This year Massachusetts’ sales tax
holiday will be held on August 15th and 16th during which
time the usual 6.25% state sales tax will not be charged on any item costing
less than $2500.
“Since your local small business owner
is often the same person that is sponsoring your child’s sports team, school
play, music program, or scholarship program, doesn’t it make sense to do your
back to school shopping on Main Street? Small businesses support local schools
and families by paying taxes, making charitable contributions and offering
employment opportunities to parents and students. The sales tax holiday weekend
is a great opportunity to support the small businesses that support our
communities every year,” Vernon concluded.
