RIGHT-TO-WORK – RIGHT FOR WISCONSIN
MADISON (February 25, 2015): Today the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is applauding the Wisconsin State Senate for its demonstration of leadership and strength with its proposed legislation to make Wisconsin a right-to-work state.
“Wisconsin small business community has always come down on the side of free-market principles that promote fair competition,” said Bill G. Smith, NFIB Wisconsin State Director, “This legislation simply provides workers the freedom to decide for themselves whether to participate in a labor union.”
Small business supports the passage of Senate Bill 44, and commends the authors of this legislation for being proactive toward improving our state’s economy and strengthening the workforce. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, nominal income grew by 209.3 percent in right-to-work states, and by 148.5 percent in non-right-to-work states from 1990-2011.
“Senate Bill 44 will allow those workers who see value in belonging to a union to continue their membership, while others may choose to keep more of their paychecks with a different decision,” said Smith.
Wisconsin would become the 25th right-to-work state in the nation, with Michigan being the most recent state to pass legislation.
