NFIB/Maryland Members' Ingredients Featured in Gov. Larry Hogan's Buy Local Cookout

Date: July 16, 2015

On July 16, members will have their grass-fed beef and locally grown sweet corn showcased.

Two NFIB/Maryland members and small business owners will have their products featured at Gov. Larry Hogan’s Buy Local Cookout on July 16.

Lisa
Godfrey, of Godfrey Farm, and Lew Dodd, of Cedar Run Farm—both of which
are located in Queen Anne’s County—will have their sweet corn and beef
featured in a signature event that challenges all Marylanders to “Buy
Local, Eat Fresh.”

As part of 15 recipes, Godfrey’s sweet corn
will be included in a roasted sweet corn and blue crab gazpacho,
featuring locally grown tomatoes, cucumbers, sweet onions, jalapenos and
shallots. For his part, Lew Dodd’s angus beef will be showcased in a
“meaty pierogies” entree.

This is Dodd’s second time featured at the cookout.

“It
feels pretty good. It means people like our product,” Dodd says of his
beef, which he says includes no grains and is both grass-fed and
grass-finished, and is farmed on his 92-acre home farm. Dodd’s family
has been farming in the area since the American Revolution.

Dodd
says he hopes the event inspires more folks to buy local and support
small businesses. “Or else you’re not going to have them,” he says.
“Everyone’s going out of business.”

The cookout, which will be hosted by Governor Hogan and First Lady Yumi Hogan, will be held at Government House on July 16.
