ObamaCare, Health Connector Wreak Havoc for Small Massachusetts Insurers
The Affordable Care Act continues to wreak havoc in Massachusetts, a state that’s already struggling with its own Health Connector woes.
According to the Boston Business Journal, “bills are due for the first insurance risk adjustment program in Massachusetts, and though several smaller insurers are saying that the payments are absurd, the state says there isn’t much it can change.”
“What we’re doing is we’re penalizing efficient providers,” CEO of Massachusetts-based Minuteman Health Tom Policelli said. “We need to reward those who are smarter, better and more efficient. And the current formula penalizes the most successful, most efficient people who have been killing themselves trying to be better.”
Eventually, it remains possible that the state’s Health Connector could join the federal risk adjustment program.
