Obamacare Causes Up to 20 Percent Spike in Illinois Insurance Costs in Some Areas

Date: November 18, 2015

As open enrollment continues, Obamacare prices in some regions of Illinois are increasing as roughly 20 percent, according to the Department of Insurance.

That’s unwelcome news for the state’s small business owners.

Predictions in July indicated that health insurance premiums could rise more than 30 percent for certain consumers in Illinois’ open marketplace on account of increased healthcare costs.

Among the 480 plan offerings, there are now three new issuers in the state’s marketplace, including Aetna, Celtic and Harkin. Across all counties, each county has a minimum of 37 plans to choose from, which is a decrease from 56 in 2015.
