NFIB/Ohio Voting Record Now Available

Date: October 14, 2014

The NFIB/Ohio Voting Record for the 130th Ohio
General Assembly is now available.  It
will be mailed to all members as an inclusion with the next NFIB MyBusiness magazine.  You can view it now by clicking on the graphic below.

A highlighted key vote to pay particular attention to is the
vote on House Bill 5, municipal income tax reform, which passed the Ohio House
of Representatives with bi-partisan support on a vote
of 56-41, and awaits a vote by the Ohio Senate during the “lame duck”
session that will follow the election.  House
Bill 5 makes numerous changes to Ohio’s convoluted municipal tax code.  With almost 600 different municipalities
levying taxes all with varying definitions, HB 5 aims to create uniformity so a
business operating in multiple jurisdictions knows the rules are the same.  HB 5 also establishes a uniform 5 year net
operating loss carry forward allowance, increases from 12 to 20 days in/out
rule and creates a definition for day.

A second highlighted piece of legislation is Amended Senate
Joint Resolution 5, a resolution to urge Congress to propose a balanced budget
amendment to the U.S. Constitution or have the states call a Constitutional
Convention solely for the purpose of discussing a balanced budget amendment. It passed with bi-partisan support on a vote of 63-29, and the Ohio
Senate then passed the measure, also with bi-partisan support 28-4 in
concurrence with the Ohio House.  In
balloting, ninety percent of NFIB members supported a balanced budget
amendment.

During the 130th Ohio General Assembly 22 members
of the Ohio Senate achieved a 100% voting record with NFIB/Ohio on
small-business issues.  Additionally, 53
members of the Ohio House of Representatives earned a perfect score.
