NFIB/Maine Backs Raye for Congress

Date: May 23, 2014

Augusta (May 23, 2014) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Maine’s leading
small business organization, today endorsed NFIB member and former State
Senator Kevin Raye for Congress.

“Kevin
Raye is a small business owner and his voting record as a leader in the Senate
clearly reflects that experience,” said NFIB
Maine State Director David Clough
. “He shares our members’ priorities and
he knows first-hand that Washington is too often part of the problem.”

Raye
and his wife run Raye’s Mustard, the only stone-ground mustard mill in America
and a business that’s been in his family since 1900.  He is also a former State Senator and a four-time
NFIB Guardian of Small Business
winner.  NFIB Guardian winners are
legislators whose voting records show strong support for small businesses on
key issues.  In each of his last two
terms Raye earned perfect 100-percent scores on the NFIB Voting Record.  He earned an 89-percent lifetime record.

“Every
candidate claims to support small business but very few have the voting record
to back that up,” said Clough.  “Kevin’s
record on small business issues speaks for itself.”

NFIB Vice President Lisa Goeas, who heads the group’s political and
grassroots operation, said Congress badly needs more members who understand
small business.

“Small
business owners across the country are reluctant to expand and create jobs
largely because of the uncertainty that Washington creates with policies that
discourage growth,” she said.  “Kevin
Raye supports broad tax reform and he agrees with our members that the federal health
care law was a mistake and that it needs to be revamped to promote more
choices, more competition and lower costs.
And he wants to approach the federal budget the same way small
businesses and households manage their own money, which is to cut unnecessary spending
and rely less on debt.”

Raye’s
endorsement was made by the NFIB SAFE Trust, the organization’s political
action committee.  Surveys show that
small business owners are influential in their communities and this year NFIB
members will work hard to send Kevin Raye to Congress as the representative for
Maine’s 2nd District.”
