NFIB to Testify on Overtime Rule Change

Date: February 20, 2015

HB 432 (Guzzardi) would significantly increase the salary threshold for overtime laws.

Illinois currently follows federal law under the Fair Labor Standards Act. It allows for some exemptions to overtime rules. HB 432 seeks to change the salary threshold for those exempt as “employees employed in a bona fide executive, administrative or professional capacity.”

The bill seeks to change the salary from more than $23,600 annually to $69,000 annually.

This would require employers to pay overtime to a much larger group of employees who fall under the executive, administrative or professional job titles.

The bill is scheduled to be heard in the House Labor Committee the week of Feb. 23. NFIB is opposed.
