The National Federation of Independent Business, the nation’s and Tennessee’s leading small-business association, has endorsed Bill Haslam for a second term as governor. NFIB announced its endorsement today at Executive Travel & Parking, an NFIB member business in Nashville.
“Governor Haslam is an outstanding leader for small business,” said Jim Brown, state director of NFIB/Tennessee. “He has led the charge on comprehensive tort, workers’ comp and tax reforms that are making a profound difference for our small-business members in Tennessee.”
During his first term, Governor Haslam has made a tremendous difference to Tennessee’s entrepreneurs and small-business owners by:
- Strengthening taxpayer rights
- Signing landmark workers’ comp reform
- Improving the state’s unemployment system
- Phasing out Tennessee’s inheritance tax, also known as the death tax, which makes it difficult for small-business owners to pass their businesses down to their children and grandchildren.
- Supporting a cap on punitive and economic damages in civil lawsuits.
“Governor Haslam has always been there for small business, and small business will be there for Governor Haslam on Election Day,” Brown said.
NFIB’s political support is based on the candidate’s position and record on small business issues. The endorsement comes from the NFIB/Tennessee SAFE (Save America’s Free Enterprise) Trust, the political action committee for NFIB/Tennessee’s membership.
Today’s endorsement puts the considerable grassroots support of the state’s small businesses behind the governor’s campaign. Small business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to vote.
NFIB will encourage its nearly 8,000 members in Tennessee to help turn out the influential small-business vote on Nov. 4.
