NFIB Endorses Eric Cantor in 7th District Primary

Date: May 29, 2014

The National Federation of Independent Business, Virginia’s and the nation’s leading small-business association, has endorsed House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the June 10 congressional primary.
“Our members support the candidates who support small business, and Eric Cantor’s record when it comes to small-business issues is rock solid,” said Nicole Riley, state director of NFIB/Virginia.
“Congressman Cantor has achieved a lifetime 96-percent NFIB voting record, taking the small-business position on issues such as Obamacare, lawsuit abuse and sensible regulations,” Riley said.
“He supported the Working Family Flexibility Act, which would allow employers to provide greater scheduling flexibility to their employees, and he supported the Paperwork Mandate Elimination Act to repeal the expensive and burdensome paperwork mandate of the poorly-named Affordable Care Act,” Riley said.
“His position as House Majority Leader means he’s responsible for getting the votes that are important to small business,” Riley said. “He has proven himself time and again to be a strong advocate for our members and for Main Street Virginia.
“Our members believe we need to send him back to Congress so he can continue working to help small businesses grow and create jobs,” Riley said.
NFIB has over 5,000 dues-paying members in Virginia representing a cross-section of the commonwealth’s economy. The endorsement comes from NFIB’s SAFE (Save America’s Free Enterprise) Trust, the association’s political action committee, and is based on positions regarding key small-business issues including health care, taxes, and labor and regulatory issues.
Small-business owners and their employees vote in high numbers and are known for actively recruiting friends, family members and acquaintances to go to the polls. NFIB will encourage its members to help turn out the small-business vote for the candidates in the June 10 primary and again in November.
