Mary Dye and Teri Hickel garner state Legislature seats.
Washington’s small business community has something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
The Nov. 3 special election resulted in legislative victories for two NFIB-endorsed candidates, state Rep. Mary Dye (District 9) and Teri Hickel (District 30), for the Washington House of Representatives.
Dye and Hickel were “unquestionably the best candidates for small business” as they had experience running a business and putting people to work, NFIB Washington State Director Patrick Connor said in a statement before the election.
Dye, who owns a farm with her husband in Garfield County, has previously joined forces with NFIB in fighting a gas tax increase. She’s also aligned herself with small business by supporting a budget that made significant investments in education while rejecting new taxes.
Hickel, who worked for the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce for 12 years, also understands the needs and challenges facing local small businesses, Connor said in July. “Teri Hickel knows our issues and has a fundamental appreciation of the fact that small businesses are not smaller versions of big businesses,” he said. “Her knowledge of the needs of the people in her district combined with her get-it-done experience on a variety of issues is deeply impressive.”
