NFIB: Braley's SmallBiz Campaign Ad is Misleading

Date: September 15, 2014

Washington, DC (September 15, 2014) – Congressman Bruce Braley’s latest Senate campaign spot describing the trial-lawyer-turned
candidate as an advocate for small business is highly misleading, said the National Federation of Independent Business
(NFIB)
today.

“Rep.
Braley has voted against small business on virtually every important issue this
session and his lifetime voting record is a failing grade by any measurement,”
said NFIB Vice President Lisa Goeas.  “This is a clear case in which a candidate’s
campaign rhetoric doesn’t match the record.”

NFIB
ballots its members at the start of every congressional and state legislative
session to identify their top concerns.
Then it tracks the votes of every incumbent and applies a score between
zero and 100 percent.  On the interim NFIB Voting Record for the
current session of  Congress Rep. Braley
has a perfect zero.  Since that report
was published he voted with NFIB on one issue, boosting his score to 10 percent.  In the Iowa Legislature, on the other hand,
State Senator Joni Ernst has a strong record on the
key small business issues.

“By
the numbers there’s no comparison between these two candidates,” said
Goeas.  “Our members overwhelmingly
support Joni Ernst because of her record and they’ve come to know Rep. Braley
as reliably hostile to small business concerns.”

NFIB
represents 10,000 small business owners in Iowa.  NFIB SAFE Trust, the organization’s political
action committee, earlier this month endorsed State Senator Joni Ernst for US
Senate.
