Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan in September announced that his administration will slash 100 various state fees, making it easier for you to own, operate and grow your small business.
Hogan said the fees—which range from professional licenses to tolls—will save taxpayers $51 million over the next five years.
“We are very proud to announce another step our administration is taking to deliver relief to Maryland’s businesses and struggling families,” Gov. Hogan said. “Earlier this year, I challenged my Cabinet to reduce or eliminate fees throughout their departments, and today we can announce that we are reducing or eliminating 100 fees across state government.”
Perhaps most impactful for small business owners will come from the professional licensure fees, which apply to real estate brokers, home appraisers, pharmacists and asbestos removal contractors.
“Now [business owners] can take that money and hopefully hire some more people,” NFIB/Maryland State Director Mike O’Halloran told the Baltimore Sun. “It’s a step in the right direction.”
