Hear From Your North Carolina State Director

Gregg Thompson discusses the most pressing issues for the small business community.

Dear NFIB/North Carolina Members,

The end of the fifth month of the General Assembly being in session marks the time for legislators to pass a continuing resolution to permit government to continue to operate past June 30.  There are three very different versions (House, Senate and governor) of the budget to be negotiated, which is anticipated to possibly take months.

The most pressing issues for the small business community and you as our NFIB members include: tax on services (in the Senate budget); insurance mandates being debated in the House committees this week; employee misclassification legislation, a huge burden and additional regulations for small businesses being debated in committee this week as well; business license registration requirements, which will ultimately lead to providing the Department of Revenue with the information to place a tax on ALL services; and additional provisions in the multiple versions of the budget NFIB is watching closely ,which could have a negative impact on your bottom line.

Today is the 87th legislative day and it is very possible the session could continue to double that number.  Please continue to monitor NFIB/North Carolina on Twitter @NFIB_NC as well as the state website and enewsletter for real-time legislative actions.

Regards,
Gregg Thompson
NFIB/North Carolina State Director
