Is Wisconsin a good place to start and operate a small business or not? That was the question behind the question at a recent startup event in Madison featuring an appearance from Gov. Scott Walker.
At Wisconsin Early Stage Symposium’s Elevator Pitch Olympics in November, Walker touted the state’s decreasing unemployment rate and its increasingly business-friendly environment. The remarks came in a year when the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation reported that Wisconsin ranked last for startup density.
Still, Wisconsin is making headway to be a better home to businesses.
“As we look at the future, we want to continue to see unemployment go down, whether it’s a company with 5,000 employees and growing or one that starts out with four or five,” Walker said, according to The Capital Times.
Walker also mentioned the state’s new streamlined business portal.
“We want to make it as simplistic as possible, so we still protect things like public safety and public health, preserve our natural resources and so forth, but we do it in a way that’s about enforcing common sense, not forcing bureaucratic red tape,” he said.
