Nebraska is the fifth-least expensive state for energy, according to an analysis by WalletHub, a web research organization that specializes in comparison studies. More than seven percent of the average U.S. consumer’s total income is spent on energy consumption, according to WalletHub. The organization looked at six key metrics, including each state’s consumption of electricity, electricity price, fuel price, and the number of miles driven. Nebraska’s energy expenses came in fifth overall, at $312 per month.
State Cash Reserves Exceed $700 Million
Higher than expected tax collections will boost Nebraska’s cash reserve to a projected $707.5 million, according to the latest projection from the Nebraska Department of Revenue. Net tax receipts totaled more than $4.1 billion for the budget year that ended on June 30, nearly 97 million more than the state’s Economic Forecasting Advisory Board’s estimates. NFIB will promote use of a portion of the Cash Reserve for tax relief during the 2015 Legislative Session.
