Lawmakers adjourned for a long four-day weekend, with the state budget to be placed on General File when they return next Tuesday.
Under legislative rules, the biennial budget must be placed on General File no later than the 70th legislative day (April 28), with all appropriations bills to be passed by the 80th legislative day (May 14).
The Nebraska Economic Forecasting Advisory Board will meet on April 30 to issue its final forecast, to assist the Legislature in crafting the final state budget. It is anticipated that the Forecasting Board will reduce revenue projections, which may result in further reductions to a budget that provides for an increase in state expenditures of approximately 3.1 percent.
