NFIB MEMBER TO PRESENT COMMISSION WITH SOLUTIONS TO STATES OVER REGULATION PROBLEM

NFIB MEMBER TO PRESENT REGULATORY REFORM COMMISSION WITH
SOLUTIONS TO STATE REGULATORY PROBLEMS

ANNAPOLIS (October 7, 2015): The second to last meeting
of the Regulatory Reform Commission is poised to take place this morning in
Waldorf and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) will be on
hand to discuss the challenges facing Maryland’s regulatory climate and the
detrimental impact it can have on small businesses throughout the state.

“Our members fully comprehend that government
regulation is an everyday reality for small business owners. Their goal is not
to dissolve the existence of regulations in their entirety, but simplify the
process by using common sense measures that were lacking in state government
prior to the Hogan administration,” Said NFIB Maryland state director Mike
O’Halloran. “The establishment of the commission is a great indicator that
the state is beginning to encourage small business owners instead of heeding
their progress. Our members having the room to expand their existing businesses
or open new ones will no doubt strengthen our economy and lead to job
creation.”

Established by the Hogan administration, the commission
has been holding regional meetings throughout the state in an attempt to not
only identify the problems facing the small business community, but present
feasible solutions to the regulatory environment that make it most difficult to
do business in Maryland. Slated to testify tomorrow in Waldorf is small
business owner and member of NFIB Maryland, Debbie Buckler. Debbie has owned
and operated The Foxy Fish Restaurant since 2012.

“When I purchased the Foxy Fish Restaurant my
intention was not only to create a unique dining experience for my customers but
also to improve what was a dilapidated structure in town and create jobs for
people in the area. I have abided by each and every regulation required of a
restaurant owner in Maryland and with every turn it seems the state would
rather impede my progress than encourage improvement of the restaurant,”
according to (Ms. Or Mrs.?) Buckler. “As an example, I have been waiting
since April to receive approval to install new equipment in my kitchen. Every
day that goes by that I am not able to optimize my kitchen capabilities is a
loss for both myself and my employees. Updated equipment equates to serving
more customers in a faster manner and that will lead to my wait staff going
home with more money in their pockets.”

The final meeting of the Regulatory Commission will take
place next week. A comprehensive evaluation of the state’s regulations is due
to the Governor at the conclusion of the series of meetings which began in
September. Small business owners are hoping that the results of the commission
will lead to swift action on Governor Hogan’s part.

“It is beyond frustrating to do everything that you
are supposed to do as a business owner and feel little support from the very
state that you are trying to improve. As a small employer responsible for
hundreds of thousands of dollars of pay roll costs, my testimony today was not
just to advocate for other small business owners, but to improve life for our
employees as well,” Concluded Buckler.
