OLYMPIA, Wash., July 2, 2025—From NFIB Washington State Director Patrick Connor on today’s release of the monthly Jobs Report from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), showing 36% (seasonally adjusted) of small business owners reported job openings they could not fill in June, up two points from May.
“The 2025 session of the Washington State Legislature was not a good one for small businesses and will stifle Main Street entrepreneurs’ growth and hiring plans. If future Jobs Reports are any better, it will be thanks to Congress, not Washington state lawmakers.”
NFIB’s Jobs Report is a national survey of NFIB-member small-business owners, not broken down by state. The typical NFIB member employs between one and nine people and reports gross sales of about $500,000 a year.
From NFIB Chief Economist Bill Dunkelberg
“Despite the slowing labor market, many small business owners are still looking to attract applicants and hire for their open positions. Compensation pressures remain strong for those owners who are competing to retain and attract talent in their business.”
