Proposed legislation would hinder small business negotiation rights
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 8, 2026) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, announced that H.R. 5408, the Faster Labor Contracts Act will be an NFIB Key Vote for the 119th Congress. NFIB sent a letter to the U.S. House of Representatives in opposition to the legislation which, if enacted, would allow the federal government to force newly unionized small businesses into binding arbitration to determine wages and benefit terms.
“The Faster Labor Contracts Act would strip newly unionized small businesses and their employees of their right to freely negotiate the terms and conditions of collective bargaining agreements,” said Adam Temple, NFIB Senior Vice President for Advocacy. “This radical piece of legislation would unnecessarily increase the federal government’s involvement in small business operations, giving Washington bureaucrats the power to determine which firms succeed, and which are forced to shut down. NFIB strongly opposes H.R. 5408, the Faster Labor Contracts Act, and a vote in opposition of H.R. 5408 will be considered an NFIB Key Vote for the 119th Congress.”
