NFIB championed SB 907 to protect small business owners from predatory trial attorneys

JEFFERSON CITY (May 6, 2026) – Small business owners in Missouri are grateful that Governor Mike Kehoe has signed Senate Bill 907 into law. The bill, which unanimously sailed through the General Assembly, aims to stop predatory trial attorneys’ attempts to force a settlement without allowing small business owners an opportunity to resolve alleged issues between their website and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Ahead the bill signing ceremony, NFIB State Director Brad Jones said:

“For far too long, the small business community has been caught in the crosshairs of predatory trial attorneys and frivolous lawsuits. SB 907 is a commonsense reform to ensure our small business owners can resolve alleged issues with their websites before settling. I want to thank the General Assembly and Governor Kehoe for their efforts on behalf of Main Street Missourians.”

Background:

The Kansas City Star published an op-ed from Jones urging the Senate to quickly advance SB 907. This comes after NFIB released new paid radio advertisements, urging the General Assembly to protect small businesses.

In February, the Missouri House unanimously advanced a reform to safeguard small businesses from lawsuit abuse. In April, the Missouri Senate followed suit.
