NFIB Urges Swift Action on Tax Bill Affecting Main Street Businesses

February 18, 2026

Legislation would let employers file local taxes electronically

NFIB State Director Tom Underwood today urged the Kentucky House to take swift action on House Bill 518, legislation that would improve efficiency and reduce costs for small businesses. The measure passed the House Committee on Local Government on Tuesday.

The bill would require local governments to accept electronic tax filings and payments for payroll and business license taxes, giving small businesses a more efficient way to meet their local tax obligations.

“Requiring local governments to accept electronic filings and payments will reduce costs, eliminate unnecessary paperwork, and save small business owners valuable time,” Underwood said.

“Small business owners want a simpler, more streamlined system that reflects how business is done today,” he said. “Passing House Bill 518 would help bring Kentucky’s local tax system into the modern era for Main Street businesses.”
