Florida Legislative Update: Special Session Coming in April

Florida Legislative Update: Special Session Coming in April

March 31, 2026

Lawmakers are considering reforms to the state’s property tax

The Florida Legislature is returning to Tallahassee for a special session beginning on April 13. Major cuts, even the total elimination of homesteaded property taxes, are under consideration during the special session.

NFIB’s concern is that broad property tax cuts would cause county governments to jack up commercial property tax rates. Small business owners need protection from this possible outcome, whether you own or lease your business property.

ACT NOW! Contact your legislators and tell them to be certain to cap commercial property valuations if any broad homesteaded property tax cuts are considered.
