NFIB Fights Ending PA Telefile, Which Will Hurt Those Without Computers

NFIB State Director Greg Moreland is actively advocating in the media and the capital against a determined push by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue to eliminate a widely used telephonic tax filing system on Dec. 31. This telephone filing system, commonly used by those in non-electronic communities, allows business owners to file their taxes over the phone rather than using the myPATH system, which is a website. The department’s proposed solution is unworkable, unsustainable and costly, and it will cost business owners significant amounts of time away from their businesses. The Department of Revenue is proposing to hire 15 new staff members (at an annual cost of nearly $1 million) to work in the “field.” While business owners could previously pick up the phone and file their taxes, now they will have to take significant time away from their business and travel to meet up with a staff member who will file their taxes for them, using a computer. In developing this plan, the state has not taken into consideration the needs of all constituents. Business owners should not have resources taken away due to religious purposes, and it is offensive they have not taken this into consideration. Instead of taking minutes to file, this will indeed cost a business owner an entire day at their business. It is imperative that your voice is heard. Your opinion as a citizen, and as a business owner and taxpayer, matters. Call the Department of Revenue executive office at 717-783-3683 and let them know that their current proposal is burdensome and inefficient.
