Media Echo NFIB Concerns About Millionaire Tax

Radio, TV, newspapers, and websites published small businesses’ opposition

With only a short 60-day session to work within, NFIB had to shift into overdrive to alert the public and media that the so-called Millionaire Tax was not as its name advertised and would eventually open the door to a state income tax for all.

In order to aid in the education of Washingtonians, NFIB put up a landing page, ProtectWashingtonSmallBusinesses.org, to complement its radio and digital ads, as well as its news releases.

Below is a sampling of the media coverage NFIB achieved. Gov. Bob Ferguson has 20 days after the Legislature’s March 12 adjournment to act on the Millionaire Tax, Senate Bill 6346. NFIB has issued this action alert to all small business owners requesting a veto of the Millionaire Tax.

March 21, KGMI News Talk 790 AM, Bellingham, Wealth Wake Up host Dick Donahue interviews State Director Patrick Connor about the end of the legislative session, especially on the Millionaire Tax, NFIB’s campaign for a veto of it, and the next steps if it’s signed into law. Connor’s remarks begin at the 12-minute, 10-second point of the 40-minute interview.

March 12, a story by The Center Square, NFIB WA says income tax could cripple small businesses, quotes State Director Patrick Connor. The story ran in 10 media outlets across the nation, including Fox26 in Medford (with video), and in Yahoo News.

March 11, Everett Post, State Director Patrick Connor quoted in story, WATCH: Business leaders fear mass exodus following House income tax vote.  Article also ran on 10 media outlets through the state, including in The Chronicle (Centralia), Nisqually News, The Reflector (Battle Ground), and on KRKO 1380 AM in Everett.

March 7, for a story that ran in 17 of its subscribing media outlets across the country, Many remain skeptical of WA House’s revised income tax bill, The Center Square quoted State Director Patrick Connor on the Millionaire Tax.

March 3, State Director Patrick Connor provided extensive background information to Seattle Times reporter Paul Roberts for his story, WA’s small businesses, startups weigh impacts of proposed income tax.
