Hearing Scheduled on Right to Organize Constitutional Amendment

The Pennsylvania House Labor & Industry is scheduled to hold a hearing on April 25th on HB 950 which proposes adding a section to the Pennsylvania Constitution establishing a “fundamental right to organize and bargain.” If adopted, this proposal would also prohibit the passage of any law that interferes with, negates, or diminishes the right of employees to organize and bargain collectively over their wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment and workplace safety. NFIB has serious concerns about this proposal and has expressed our opposition to members of the Committee. We will also keep NFIB members informed of this proposal should it come before the House. Note: Amendments to the Pennsylvania Constitution must pass during two legislative sessions and be presented to voters statewide for approval.
