NFIB members attend Small Business Deduction Summit of 2025

What it means: The 20% Small Business Deduction is set to expire at the end of this year. NFIB members traveled to Washington D.C. for NFIB’s Small Business Deduction Summit. They met with lawmakers to explain the urgency of stopping a massive tax hike should the deduction not be made permanent.
Our take: “This week, Main Street job creators shared one urgent message with lawmakers: Stop the massive tax hike on small businesses. The 20% Small Business Deduction levels the playing field between small businesses and larger corporations, allowing small business owners to compete, grow their business, hire employees, raise wages, and give back to their communities,” said NFIB President Brad Close.

Small business owners continue to fight for the 20% Small Business Deduction. On Feb. 11-12, NFIB members traveled to the nation’s capital to share why Congress must make the deduction permanent to avoid a massive tax hike on 33 million small businesses nationwide. This was the first Small Business Deduction Summit of 2025, providing small business owners with the opportunity to discuss the issue with lawmakers.
If Congress does not make the Small Business Deduction permanent, nine out of 10 small businesses will face a massive tax hike. Small business owners attended dozens of meetings with members of Congress and their staff to discuss the urgency of passing the Main Street Tax Certainty Act – the legislation that will make the deduction permanent. The legislation has been reintroduced in both the U.S. Senate and House.
