NFIB Awards Senator Mitch McConnell Guardian of Small Business Award

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 16, 2022) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, awarded U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell with the Guardian of Small Business Award, NFIB’s most prestigious legislative recognition. “Senator Mitch McConnell has been a consistent ally of Kentucky’s small businesses in Congress,” said Tom Underwood, NFIB Kentucky State Director. “He voted to extend the Paycheck Protection Program and opposed amendments to restore the Raise the Wage Act and raise taxes on small businesses during the pandemic. He is a true Guardian of Small Business, and we are proud to present him with this award.” “Small businesses are the backbone of Kentucky’s economy,” said Senator McConnell. “I’ve been proud to stand by their side during the 117th Congress, delivering crucial aid to help them thrive coming out of the pandemic, opposing the reckless spending fueling inflation, and resisting destructive tax hikes. NFIB has been a key partner in each of those legislative battles and shares my commitment to supporting Kentucky small businesses. I’m honored to receive the organization’s Guardian of Small Business Award and look forward to continuing our work together.” “NFIB awards the Guardian of Small Business Award to Members of Congress who have proven to be real champions of small businesses,” said Brad Close, NFIB President and CEO. “Senator Mitch McConnell has demonstrated his dedication to small business issues by earning a 100% NFIB voting record for the 117th Congress. He has been a reliable leader for Kentucky’s small businesses in the Senate and has opposed legislation that would increase taxes and mandates on small businesses nationwide. We are pleased to name him a Guardian of Small Business.” Find a complete list of the NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award recipients from the 117th Congress, please click here. NFIB’s Guardian of Small Business Award is reserved for lawmakers who vote consistently with small businesses on key issues identified by small business owners. Those who voted with small business on key issues 70% or more of the time during the 117th Congress earned the NFIB Guardian of Small Business Award. NFIB informs lawmakers in advance which votes will be considered NFIB Key Votes and asks lawmakers to support the consensus views of our members. We also remind them that the results will be reported back to the NFIB membership.
