Missouri Small Businesses Applaud Reduction of Workers’ Compensation Rates

JEFFERSON CITY (Dec. 4, 2024) — Following the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance’s (DCI) announcement that employers should see a reduction in workers’ compensation rates for the fourth year in a row, NFIB State Director Brad Jones issued a statement.

“A reduction in costs is always welcome news to the small business community,” Jones said. “Main Street employers make tremendous investments in their workplaces to ensure the safety of their employees. It’s clear those investments are paying off.”

Background:

The announcement was made based on preliminary figures collected by DCI from the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI). The NCCI recently proposed an overall decrease of 5.3 percent for 2025 workers’ compensation loss costs. According to DCI, the 5.3 percent decrease in loss costs between Jan. 1, 2024 and Jan. 1, 2025 is driven by data collected on an annual basis showing a decline in average indemnity and medical costs per lost time claim.
